Weekly SRC book chats and art projects
Meet at the Library every Thursday afternoon to discuss your favourite book of the week and participate in a funky art project. Each week we will read books from a different genre - romance, fantasy, historical fiction, etc.
What's different?:
You read a book of your choosing and come and tell us why you liked it or hated it.
Snacks and supplies are provided! Book lists with suggested titles for each week's theme are available as well if you're stuck for ideas!
Every Thursday, July 8th - 29th 1:30-3:30
Drop-in, no registration! Prize draw each week for those who attend!
JULY 8th - LUV BUTTONS - we're talking romance novels then we're making LUV BUTTONS with our snazzy button-making machine!
JULY 15th - MACGYVER MASHUP - we're talking SCI-FI and FANTASY then we're going to mash up” your fave novel with another novel and “Macgyver” (this will be explained!) a creation using materials in the MYSTERY KIT that will be provided. Prizes awarded for most creative design and use of the mystery kit!
JULY 22nd - FUTURE SURVIVAL - we will be talking about books like Uglies, Forest of the hands and teeth, Hunger Games and others that portray a harsh future. After we discuss the books, we'll do a survival game/art project! 
Teen Video Contest - Get into Character Book Trailer Video!
We're having a Lower Mainland-wide contest to see who can make the best 3-minute book trailer video. There will be one contest in the New Westminster Public Library for the best video and then that video will be entered in the Lower Mainland-wide contest to see who has the best book trailer. Grand prize for the Lower Mainland winner is a $200 gift card to Best Buy.
Contest details are available in the Children's Department of the New Westminster Public Library.
Contest runs July 1st through August 15th!

Reading Buddies
Reading buddies will start again in the Fall 2010. Registration for the Fall session will begin the first week of September!
