Job Information for Teens
Don't make the mistakes so common to kids who are just entering the job market! It's critical for you to get off on the right start or you are guaranteed to remain jobless!
DON'T:
- write a single resume to use for every job
- show up unprepared to places to ask for a job
- use your cell phone, iPod or other devices while talking to prospective employers
- let it be obvious that you are just running up and down the block going to every place in the neighborhood
- talk excessively in your interview
- and so on....
DO:
- Create a different resume for each job you apply for - tailor the resume to suit the position and company
- Research the organization before you show up
- Be prepared for an on-the-spot interview - you may be talking to the very person who does the hiring
- Have a clear and targeted resume with a clear objective that matches the position
- be sure you take advantage of the hidden job market (see below)
