Computers @ NWPL

How can I use a computer at the Library?

Using a Computer @ NWPL

The Library has 22 Internet stations for public use in the Reference Department and 2 for children to use in the Children's Department. Six stations in Reference are 15-minute only use and can be used once per day.

  • First-come, first-served
  • You must have a valid NWPL library card to access the internet, or ID if you are a guest. If you have a card from another InterLINK library system (click here to see a map of member libraries) you must register that card with the New Westminster Public Library. If you live in any of the areas served by InterLINK, you need to get a library card in order to use the computers
  • If you do not have identification or a library card, you will not be able to use a computer
  • Computers can be used for 55 minutes a day (adults) and 30 minutes a day (children). On Sundays, computers are available for 30 minutes a day

Reference Department Computers:

  • Use OpenOffice software and are Windows-compatible
  • Permit you to save your work to floppy discs, CDs, DVDs, and USB drives
  • Provide access to a networked printer that costs $0.15 a page for printing.
  • For basic word processing without internet access, there are three Microsoft Windows computers with Microsoft Word.

Laptop Use @ the Library

You are welcome to use your laptop to access our free wireless network. We have one table reserved for laptop users with four ports for cable internet access and power outlets.  Our ten study carrels have outlets as well, but they are not solely for laptop use. Please try to have your laptop battery fully charged before you come to the library in case all the available outlets are full.

Use of the Internet is governed by our Internet Access policy. For more information, please contact the Library.
