In addition to exploring the links below, be sure to ask about our extensive collection of parenting books and DVDs at the library. We also have a Community Resources Binder full of information about local daycares, tutors, support services, and much more.


Local Resources & Organizations

Kids New West : This site lists organizations that provide services for New Westminster families, as well as events, activities, and more. Ask at the library for a copy of their Community Resource Guide.

New Westminster Family Place : Drop-in programs and resources for parents of children aged 0 to 5 years.

Family Services of Greater Vancouver : This organization hosts several programs in New West including a Single Mom's Group and ESL programs. 

Lower Mainland Purpose Society for Youth and Families : This is a non-profit society based in New West which provides social, health, and educational programs.

Spirit of the Children Society : SotCS provides support and resources for Aboriginal children and families.

Canadian Children’s Book Centre: A great source of information about Canadian children’s books, authors, illustrators and publishing.

Embracing Diversity: An online community resource  featuring video performances of children's songs and rhymes in 15 languages.


French Resources

Homework Help: Helpful links for French Immersion students compiled by the Canadian Parents for French. The CPF website also has many other great resources for parents and students.

Comptines et chansons pour enfants: Songs and rhymes in French.

FSL Activities with M. Renaud: Wordsearches, crosswords, and other word games in French.

Monde des Petits: A colourful website with games, songs, and rhymes in French for small children.

Rocket Languages: Online language learning program that can be accessed for free with your library card. Great for parents who want to learn along with their children!

TumbleBookLibrary: Read stories and listen to audio books, all on your computer! French readalongs are included under the "Language Learning" tab. Library card required.

World Book: A great tool for homework help, the World Book Encyclopedia online is also accessible in French (click on Encyclopédie Découverte). Library card required.
