Chromebooks are laptops that run on Google’s web-based Chrome Operating System. Our library users may check out one Lenovo N23 Chromebook per card on a first-come, first-served basis.
The Chromebooks are Wi-Fi enabled and will automatically connect to our public Wi-Fi network when used in the library or anywhere in New Westminster where CityPublicWifi is in range: https://www.newwestcity.ca/city_hall/media/new_west_wifi.php
These laptops work best for browsing the Internet or completing tasks that require the use of a browser, such as taking online courses, filling out online forms, or writing emails.
Users can also use the Chromebooks to access all of our online resources that are available 24/7 to anyone with a NWPL card. Learn a new language with Rocket Languages, check out new magazines and newspapers from around the world with PressReader and RBdigital, or watch films on Indieflix.
Anyone with a valid NWPL card (Youth or Adult) that has borrowing privileges may borrow one Chromebook per card at one time on a first-come, first-served basis.
There are two sets of Chromebooks available at each of our branches: regular loan period (7 days) and Express Loan (3 hours).
Two different lending periods are available: 7 days (regular loan) or 3 hours (express loan). Please ask staff or check the library catalogue for device availability based on your preferred lending period.
Regular Device (7 days loan) can also be renewed as follows: 1 renewal for 7 days assuming no hold on the device. Express Devices (3 hours loan) cannot be renewed.
- Lending Chromebooks are Wi-Fi enabled and connect automatically to CityPublicWiFi when in range. Users can also connect to a different wireless network and detailed instructions about this are available on the handout that accompanies each Chromebook.
