Visiting the library!

    The library has lots of books to read and activities to do. This story will show some of the things that I might see or do at the library. Click to the next slide to see what happens next! (1/15)

    As I enter the Main Branch, there is a help desk with workers to my right. They are there to help me and answer any questions I have about the library. (2/15)

    There is a bin of sensory support items like noise-reducing headphones, sunglasses, and a wobble cushion. I can borrow anything I need from this bin to use in the library. (7/15)

    This help desk also has a menu of puzzles and games that I can borrow. I can point to the picture of what I’d like to play with in the library and a worker will get it for me. (8/15)

    Library workers love helping me find books that I will like. I can read them here at the library or I can borrow them to take home with me. Books can stay at my home for 3 weeks and then it will be time to bring them back to the library. (9/15)

    When I need to use the washroom, I can use the child-sized washrooms in the children’s area (pictured), or the wheelchair/mobility device-accessible washroom nearby. (10/15)

    I can also visit the Queensborough Branch of the library. It is similar to the Main Branch, but smaller. Just like the Main Branch, it has a help desk, friendly workers, and a children’s area that looks like this. (11/15)

    Sometimes the library is very quiet. Sometimes it is loud, like when there is a storytime happening. Usually, it’s best to speak in my usual speaking voice – I don’t need to whisper. (12/15)

    If I make some loud noises or I need to move my body to feel comfortable, that’s OK! The library workers understand, and will help other people in the library understand, too. (13/15)
