Public Computers & Wi-Fi

Public Computers

Desktop computers are available for use at both our branches on a walk-in basis.

At Main Branch we offer 16 computers, including one “express” workstation, while at Queensborough Branch we provide four computers, including one “express” workstation. The computers at Main Branch are located on the second floor.

Session limits

Users are limited to one 60-minute session per day at regular workstations and one 15-minute session per day at express workstations in order to provide access to as many users as possible.

Before the end of your 60-minute session, you will be given the option to extend your time under the condition that at least one other workstation is available for another patron to use. Under this condition, you will be eligible to extend twice, for 15 minutes each extension, resulting in a maximum usage of 90 minutes per day.

If you need more time, you may ask staff to further extend your session and may be accommodated at their discretion under the same condition that at least one other workstation is available for another patron to use.

How to log in

To log in to a desktop computer, use your library card number and four-digit PIN. If you do not have a library card, you may request a guest pass from staff. Guest passes are one-time use and should be recycled following your session.

We provide free Wi-Fi at both library branches. You do not require a library card or password to access our Wi-Fi network.

  • Search for CityPublicWiFi in your list of available networks.
  • Click on it to join.
  • You should then see a verification page from the City of New Westminster.
  • Click the Continue to the Internet button if you agree to the terms and conditions.

CityPublicWiFi is the Wi-Fi network provided by the City of New Westminster.

Troubleshooting
  • If the verification page does not pop up, try
    • opening a web browser window, where the page should then appear,
    • restarting your device, and/or
    • speaking to a library staff member.
