Join us for quality one-on-one time with your little one as we learn literacy-building rhymes and songs. Our Main Branch and Anvil Centre programs are specially geared toward infants in their first year; for older babies please see our Toddler Time program or Babytime at our Queensborough branch. All literature is storytelling at its core. Join us for an afternoon of stories from this place, on the banks of the Fraser River. Celebrated Indigenous storytellers, Si:yemiya (Stó:lō from Shxwowhamel) and Kung Jaadee (Haida) share stories and parts of their culture. We are thrilled to partner with the Native Art Renaissance Gallery on Carnarvon Street for this event.
Si:yemiya also known as Albert Sonny McHalsie is from Shxwowhamel, where the river levels and widens. He retired last year in May after working for 40 years with the Stolo Research and Resource Management Centre as the Cultural Advisor/Historian. He has 6 sons and 2 daughters and 11 grandchildren. He continues at his ancestral fishing ground in Aselaw. He operated Bad Rock Tours offering 10 different tours between Surrey and Yale.
Kung Jaadee is a Squamish and Haida storyteller, who has been performing for 33 years. She’s travelled across the country sharing legends and personal stories. She also sings traditional Haida songs. She’s written five picture books and she’s recently co-written a trilogy with her settler friend. 
Beloved New Westminster teacher-librarian, Elaine Su, will lead a special story time to read her new book, Love, Panda. Bring your own stuffy, and after the story we’ll make portraits of our stuffed friends, so they can write letters, just like Panda!
Attendance at this event is through registration. Please register below, indicating number of children. Intended for children ages 4-9 and their families.
Elaine Su 苏依泠 was born in Shanghai and now lives with her family in beautiful coastal BC. Her favourite childhood stuffie was an enormous green and white rabbit named Duffle. He has since been adopted by her children and now lives in their bedroom where he rules over a kingdom of a hundred other stuffies. One of them is Panda. Elaine is an author, a teacher, an artist, and an avid fan of jigsaw puzzles.

Join us in celebrating New West Pride Week with a special storytime featuring Carmella Barr and Weebee!
Pride Storytime includes family-friendly singing, dancing, and reading. It is centered around themes of kindness, inclusion, and being proud of being YOU!
Families opt in to attend and must register in advance. Like all other programming for young children, it requires caregiver participation. We trust families to choose among our wide array of programs and choose those that are the best fit for them.

Join us for an immersive Cantonese Storytime with Priscilla from Hello Canto! We’ll sing songs, read stories, and play games designed to keep children actively engaged and having fun. This program is facilitated in beginner-friendly Cantonese, suitable for all ages.
